Gardiner (bei Faulkner) übersetzt "At last he sat down and broke silence", was Faulkner wörtlich als "(he) divided (the silence) with the voice" auffaßt. Lichtheim übersetzt "he broke out saying", Parkinson hat "and (he) argues / saying" und Mathieu versteht "À la fin il s'assit, éclatant en sanglots".
