    Im Jahr 1828 für König Ludwig I. von Bayern in Rom erworben. Ehemals in der königlichen Glyptothek, München (Gl = Glyptothek; WAF = Wittelsbacher Ausgleichsfonds).

Commentaire sur la datation:

  • Cartouches of Ramesses II in text.
  • Wildung nimmt an, dass Bakenchons eine unfertige Statue aus der Zeit Amenhoteps III. nachnutzte. Schoske (in: Münchner Jahrbuch der Bildenden Kunst 38, 1987, 7-26) glaubt, dass die Statuen von Bakenchons in Kairo und in München unfertige Statuen aus der unmittelbaren Nachamarnazeit waren, die stilistisch bei der Zeit Amenhoteps III. anschließen und die erst später im Auftrag von Bakenchons beschriftet wurden. Schulz (Die Entwicklung und Bedeutung des kuboiden Statuentypus, Vol. I, 428 Anm. 2) entscheidet sich gegen die Frühdatierungen von Wildung und Schoske und hält beide Statuen für Produkte aus der Zeit Ramses' II., die stilistische Elemente aus der Zeit Amenhoteps III. wiederaufnehmen.

Description

  • This is a plain block statue, slightly moulded to human form and seated on a large and clearly defined cushion. There is a broad back pillar. The wig is a short braided double wig with echeloned side panels and partially covered ears. The facial features are carefully carved; the eyes and eyebrows have carved outlines, and the lips are full. The neck is short and hidden from the front by a braided beard. The hands are laid flat upon the knees, palm down, and are carved in low relief. The feet are not sculpted separately but are covered by the garment. The base is large and consists of two stepped layers.
  • There are four columns of hieroglyphic inscription on the knees (→), six columns on the back pillar (→), and one horizontal line around each level of the base (←). The text on the lower base is almost entirely lost. There are cartouches on both shoulders.
