ptr kk.w m hrw: The motif of “seeing darkness by day” occurs in a number of hymns and prayers from Deir el-Medina (Borghouts 1982, 7 with n. 31; Galán 1999). It is possible that these relate actual cases of temporary blindness; Borghouts notes examples of individuals seeking medical treatment for blindness where the cause is connected with divine anger. However, it is likely that the majority of such references in hymns are metaphors, expressing the power of the god both to punish and show mercy.
