  • Die ganze Maxime ist schwer verständlich. Falls in Vers D253 nicht das Substantiv wšb.yt, sondern das Verb wšb in einer Passivkonstruktion gemeint ist (wšb.t(w)), kann jn wr das logische Subjekt sein ("Nicht wird geantwortet werden ... durch einen Großen"). Dann muß man das folgende r jedoch wegemendieren oder rḫt=f: "sein Verzeichnis" statt r ḫ.t=f lesen: "... wenn seine (des Boten) Auflistung fehlgeschlagen ist (?)".

    Vgl. die Übersetzungen:
    - "Nor can a great man reply "So who does know it?" / when the messenger's knowledge fails." (Parkinson);
    - "There is no reaction "now who is someone who knows it?" on the part of an authority on the subject of his (= the messenger's) business when he has got into a failure." (Borghouts, in: Englund und Frandsen (Hgg.), Crossroad I, 63); "Il ne sera pas rétorqué ... par le dirigeant à propos de son affaire, quand il s'est trouvé dans l'erreur" (Vernus, Sagesses, 124, Anm. 137).

    Eine Emendation ist notwendig für folgende Übersetzung:
    - "As to the master, his affairs will fail" (Lichtheim); vgl. "es ist der Große, dessen Rechnung nicht aufgeht (?); (wörtl.: dessen Dinge fehlgehen)" (Burkard, in: TUAT, 206); vgl. "denn es ist ja der auftraggebende Große, dessen Mitteilung (rḫt) unverständlich ist" (Kurth).
