Der Eintrag im Wörterbuch (Wb 5, 148.11) basiert auf einer Belegstelle in der Siegesinschrift Ramses’ III. aus dem Jahr 11 (MH 82,16; KRI V, 60.11), wo der Begriff mit dem Mann mit der Hand am Mund (A2) klassifiziert ist und in der Bedeutung „Entscheidung“ verwendet wird, s. Redford, Medinet Habu Records, 51: „… their evil intentions rebounded upon themselves, (for) their descisions transgressed [the will] of god!“. Weitere Belege finden sich in den Oracular Amuletic Decrees (OAD), wo der Begriff insgesamt acht Mal bezeugt ist (pLondon BM EA 10083 (L1): Rto. x+29; pLondon BM EA 10251 (L2): Rto. 82; pLondon BM EA 10321 (L5): Rto. x+18/OAD, vs. 18; pLondon BM EA 10587 (L6): Rto. 12; pLondon BM EA 10730 (L7): x+12; pTurin Cat. 1983 (T1): Rto. 93; pTurin Cat. 1984 (T2): Vso. 90–91; pIfao H40 A, x+2). Die Orthographie variiert, doch in jedem Fall ist das Wort mit dem Auge (D6) klassifiziert. Daher übersetzt Fischer-Elfert (Altägyptische Zaubersprüche, 109) „angestarrt werden“, dem Grams (in: SAK 46, 2017, 93) folgt; Edwards (HPBM 4, Bd. 1, 3–4 [21]; 54 [46]; 71 [49]) bleibt mit „glance“ etwas neutraler. Hoch (Sem. Words, 339–340 [503]) zieht sehr überzeugend eine Verbindung zur semitischen Wurzel qsm „divination, oracle, decision“, was inhaltlich gut zu den Belegen in den OAD passt und dem Peust (in: TUAT NF 4, 2008, 327 mit Anm. 21) folgt. Der Klassifikator in den Texten spricht in diesem Fall für ein Sichtomen.
