  • zni̯=sn: Gardiner, Admonitions, 99 trennt diesen Satz ab und übersetzt sehr zögerlich "they are like what is past (??)". zni̯ r ist aber gut belegt in der Bedeutung "nachahmen" (zuerst Lichtheim: "From the first generation to those who come after, / They imitate that which is past"). In unserer Übersetzung wird von einem Umstandssatz ausgegangen. Lichtheim und Vernus betrachten šꜣꜥ-r ẖ.t tp.t nfr.yt-r jwi̯.w ḥr-sꜣ als vorangestelltes Subjekt von zni̯=sn. Vernus, Essai sur la conscience de l'histoire, 14, Anm. q, gibt weitere Beispiele, wo, je nach grammatischer Interpretation, Konstruktionen wie šꜣꜥ-r nicht notwendigerweise als adverbiale Erweiterungen des vorherigen Satzes aufzufassen sind. Parkinson, in: Fs Simpson, 651 übersetzt wie Lichtheim und Vernus, aber in Tale of Sinuhe, 146 und 149, Anm. 4 folgt er Gardiners (veralteter) Interpretation von zni̯ und spricht von der Doppeldeutigkeit des Verses: "the generations both are like (i.e. resemble), but also emulate (in speech) transient things".
