Bei einigen Wörtern es kommt im Neuägyptischen zu einem Genuswechsel, s. Neven, in: LingAeg 21, 2013, 139¬–157. Eine mögliche Entwicklung ist, dass zu einem maskulinen Substantiv ein feminines Pendant ohne eine Änderung in der Bedeutung entsteht (und entsprechend vice versa). Ein solcher Fall liegt beispielsweise bei dem Wort msḏr „Ohr“ (Wb 2, 154.13–16; https://thesaurus-linguae-aegyptiae.de/lemma/76230, in: Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae, 26.4.2023) vor: vgl. msḏr.t „Ohr“ (Wb 2, 154.17; https://thesaurus-linguae-aegyptiae.de/lemma/860133, in: Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae, 26.4.2023). Eine ebensolche Entwicklung zeigt sich an dieser Stelle für rd, die durch die Existenz eines Femininums rd.wjt (CDD R, 79; https://thesaurus-linguae-aegyptiae.de/lemma/dm3637, in: Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae, 25.4.2023) im Demotischen bestätigt wird. Allerdings bezeichnet – anders als im vorliegenden Fall – nach Vittmann (in: ZÄS 127, 2000, 179–180 [118]) im Demotischen das Femininum den einzelnen Fuß, wohingegen für das Paar weiterhin das maskuline Substantiv verwendet wird. Dies müsste aufgrund des hier vorliegenden Belegs als spätere Entwicklung angesehen werden.
