  • ḫpš meint zunächst den Vorderschenkel etwa von Rindern, davon abgeleitet aber auch den menschlichen Arm, v.a. der aktive Arm, bei dem Aspekte wie „Kraft“ und „Stärke“ mitschwingen, vgl. Fischer, in: JEA 59, 1973, 224-226. S. auch Willems, in: JEA 76, 1990, 30-31. Wiederum davon abgeleitet (?) bedeutet das Wort auch „Kraft, Stärke“ u.ä. Die hier gewählte Übersetzung versucht diesem Aspekt gerecht zu werden. Walker, Anatom. Term., 273 versteht unter ḫpš rein anatomisch „arm, foreleg – encompasses the entire foreleg as well as the shoulder girdle (scapula + attached muscles)“, allerdings ohne weitere Begründung. Auf S. 316 übersetzt er das Wort in der hiesigen Stelle mit „upper limb“.
