  • Ein sehr poetischer und bildreicher Stil, der schon drei Sätze zuvor mit der Umschreibung der Harpune als "Waffe des Wassers" begann und sich fundamental etwa von der trockenen Beschreibung der Herstellung dieser Waffe abhebt (vgl. aber vielleicht auch die Herstellung des Schildes des Achilles in Ilias, XVIII 468-616, v.a. 468-477 [die restlichen Verse beschreiben den kunstvollen Schild]).

    ḥmt wird hier und im Folgenden in der Übersetzung als "Erz" belassen und nicht mit "Speer" o.ä. übersetzt, um die Metaphorik nicht zu verlieren. Zur Bezeichnung des Speeres als "Erz" (khalkos) bei Homer vgl. etwa Ilias, VII 77; XXI 254 oder Odyssee, XXII 278.
