  • Ce terme, rédigé en écriture syllabique, fait indéniablement référence à une ville comme le montre l'usage du déterminatif de la ville (O49). Elle pourrait se trouver à l'étranger mais être considérée comme égyptienne, comme le montre l'usage d'un tel déterminatif dans le cas de toponyme nubien. Le déterminatif de l'eau suggére qu'il s'agit d'un lieu à proximité d'une source d'eau, un port ou au bord d'un canal.
    Zibelius-Chen, Meroitica 25. 68-69 propose de rapprocher ce toponyme du lexème méroïtique abd signifiant "terre, province". Deux autres alternatives sont également évoquées.
